DESCRIPTION:
French night clock, an unusual adaptation of the design of Victor Pierret incorporating a pendulum clock with standard dial, the gilt spelter case with classical and rococo ornament, case top with rotating Roman numeral milk glass globe containing a candle holder for illumination at night and turned and engraved brass indicator, front with Roman numeral white enamel dial and blued steel hands, 8 days, time only movement with Brocot escapement, c1880.
CONDITION:
Clock case with losses to gilding, some areas with touch ups, round case back replaced, dial with a few scratches, minor flakes around winding hole, globe support good and in old lacquer, looks to be misaligned at first but on examination appears always to have been this way, globe very good, marked France, probably an old replacement, running, bracket that stabilizes linkage between movement and globe replaced, will likely require adjustment for smooth transmission of power to globe, Ht 13 1/2"
